A bold and fearless Jakarta Based Visual artist, Agam Dwi Nurcahyo was born in Jakarta. Graduated from Fine Arts department of Jakarta Art Institute in 2013 and majored in Paintings, Agam discovered his devotion for paintings and drawings from the very early age, he joined several drawing contests which later becomes his true passion.
With his past childhood of living close to a prostitution district where he was able to witnessed pornography scenes, have shaped him to become a forthright and critical thinker and to have profound cross cultural understanding, mainly on the social issues and sexuality in which have day to day influenced his Artworks. He is undoubtedly recognized for his artworks that are often considered to be vulgar and provocative. The transparency and rawness within his Paintings, the past memories and environment of where Agam used to experience and live, he persistently unveils them in his works.
During his study in Art Institute, he felt the need to learn the knowledge of photography due to his passion for paintings, which later becomes his main media guidelines to paint. Agam also endeavored on other mediums such as installation, sculpture and videography. Nevertheless, he is still a passionate painter.
In 2014, Agam decided to move to Bali in aim for self-exploration. He is experienced in working as visual merchandiser in various store in Bali. During the transition in between 2014 to 2016, Agam also experimented on different arts such as mixed media and Installation. he later on decided to reside in Jakarta as an Art director, Painting teacher in Hadiprana Art Centre, held several workshops as well teaches private classes.
At the present time, he is commonly known as MAGAFAKA. The word Maga comes from the reversed version of his name, meanwhile, Faka refers to fucker and is labeled by his friend due to his rebellious attitude which he later chose the name “Magafaka” as a personal branding. Agam is currently working independently in his serene, tiny and own-built store and studio named Magiss, situated in the heart of the urban area of South Jakarta, Santa Modern Market. Where you could find his exceptional one off paintings on canvas, mixed media artworks and one of a kind hand-painted denim jackets which are also on display in Galeries Lafayette, Jakarta.
