Hanifia Rahmadiani (Fia) is a full-time technical product designer with a great enthusiasm for crafting, especially crochet. After obtained her diploma of fashion design and creation at Esmod Jakarta and an advanced diploma of fashion design at Raffles Institute, Fia took few jobs as a fashion stylist assistant as well as fashion designer assistant. She is now currently working at Metrox who later met her friend, Titi Trisnaharti (Abby) who studied Computer Graphics and Multimedia in Lasalle Jakarta and later become a creative director, creating the concepts for start-ups. Together they decided to create an endearing brand called Égon – which focused are on colorful daily accessories, with a hand-crocheted small bag called Le Déj as their signature.
In 2017, a year of where Égon started to produce large quantity of bags. Jane Birkin’s wicker bag played a very big part to the birth of the brand Egon. The large amount of left over fabrics of fashion design students is the main realization of where they perhaps should started to re-create them into a tote bag.
It is difficult to imagine for Fia to not do what she does as to become a fashion designer is her dream since she was in elementary school. Any movie with the Dorleac sisters which are the inspirations of Égon, Eric Rohmer visuals and table setting is always a go – They saw Conte d'Été and named their upcoming hat "La Crêpe" because when you fold it, it will look like one. They discussed a lot about their dream collabs but one of the thing that keep crossing their minds is with a patisserie or boulangerie, making an Égon flavored cake or vice versa (Coven Bakery is their favorite)
Apart from their brand Égon, Fia’s both mom and grandmother are the ones who keen to introduced her to world of crafting which later become Fia’s life-time passion. Whilst Abby, on the other hand is obsessed with a novel or movie based from Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden. Her dream was once to become a film director. Visual muses such as the painting Ophelia by Millais and uniquely vegetables, both Abby and Fia’s current obsession is the shape of lettuce.
Be on time, client experience and to create an “everyday” piece that is timeless and handcrafted are 3 very important aspects to their work ethics. Fia and Abby think that maybe in a world of where everything looks the same, the thing that could differ one brand to another is it’s background story. they are constantly trying to communicate Égon to the public, to make it more personal - as if Égon is a person instead of a brand. “So anyone could just like say hi to Égon. Making a warm environment not only for the customers, but also for the people who help us making Égon's products happens.”
“Be commited and don’t give up. Everything take a process, there’s beauty in waiting and patience is a Virtue.” Fia and Abby of Égon on what advice they’d like to share to fellow fashion designer who want to build a start-up
Égon launched their witty colorful pouches and bags exclusively for Canaan and will do Crochet Workshop this Saturday, 5th of October 2019 at Niniveh Space
