The Pot Cartel is one-off handmade ceramic ware based in Jakarta founded by bestfriends Nesya Jessiko and Shelvin Prasetio. Who both shares the same love of craft and world of pottery. more than merely a homeware, both Nesya and Shelvin created beautiful objects that enhance the spaces that we live in. A slate that doesn’t function just a slate. Every piece is a multi-function artware.
Their technique is much more in hand-building and less of a wheel-thrown. Hence the rough edges, uneven lines, and sometimes raw texture. These add depth and aesthetic to the pieces. We can feel the hand-work in every piece of Pot Cartel.
Their collection are something they always envisioned in their minds and put into reality. With a background of Fashion Design study and graduated from Raffles Design Institute in Singapore, Shelvin also has her own bridal fashion label as well running her Hotpot restaurant in one of Jakarta’s prestigious area, on the other hand Nesya graduated from Raffles Design Institute in Singapore majored in Visual Communication, later worked as an inhouse graphic designer in Fairmont Singapore and took a summer course of Photography in Speos Paris, France. Together they evolved The Pot Cartel pieces into a recognisable collection of unique shapes and all things artisanal.
Apart from their lives as a potter. Nesya enjoys to read, old movies and travel. Both Nesya and Shelvin takes their inspirations from anything and anyone that came across them, as each individuals has their own significant impression. Shelvin also admires Salvador Dali, for he is a true surrealist artist, where his inspirations came from the unconscious mind.
To create something that never existed before. Something new, a fresh breath in the air. Pot Cartel aims to create unique pieces, with shapes and texture that they always envisioned in the setting. A slate that doesnt function just as a slate but rather multifunctional. As a plate, jewelry tray, candle holder, and many things up to imagination.
“i never really think of making a big impact whatsoever, but somehow if my work could inspire people that would be amazing. Most importantly, Keep on creating and keep on inspiring others. Because in the near future when robots takes over jobs.. only the passionate creatives will be able to continue creating.” –Nesya and Shelvin of The Pot Cartel.
Together with Lilco FLowers, they will show flower arrangement installations on 10 custom-built ceramic vases at Niniveh’s “Travel Through Time”
